Marie Słodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA)

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) are intended to encourage young men and women to take up a career in research and to promote the attractiveness of such a career around the world amongst the most highly talented individuals. The MSCA also aims to retain Europe's own researchers. Since its launch in 1996, the MSCA has become the EU's reference programme for doctoral education and postdoctoral training. The MSCA makes a significant contribution towards excellent research, in addition to boosting jobs, growth and investment by equipping researchers with new knowledge and skills and providing them with international and inter-sectoral exposure.

The MSCA are open to all domains of research and innovation. They also have a strong international dimension, as the MSCA are based on the principle of physical mobility.

The work programme 2023-2024 describes the following actions:

  • Action 1. MSCA doctoral networks, which aim to train creative, entrepreneurial, innovative and resilient doctoral candidates;
  • Action 2. MSCA postdoctoral fellowships, which aim to enhance the creative and innovative potential of researchers holding a PhD;
  • Action 3. MSCA staff exchanges promote innovative international, inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary collaboration in research and innovation through exchanging staff, and sharing knowledge;
  • Action 4. MSCA COFUND co-finances new or existing doctoral programmes and postdoctoral fellowship schemes on a national, regional or international level with the aim of disseminating the best practices of the MSCA;
  • Action 5. MSCA and Citizens aims to bring research and researchers closer to the public at large.
