Reinforcing and extending the excellence of the Union's science base.
Three different actions are brought under this pillar:
European Research Council
The European Research Council (ERC) continues to provide long-term funding to ground-breaking, high-gain/high-risk research that advances the frontiers of knowledge, thereby helping Europe to lead the development, not only of key digital technologies, but also of emerging enabling technologies and clean technologies that will enable climate neutrality, and thereby raising the quality of European research overall.
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) will fund, support and train the talented individuals and institutions involved in research and innovation in a fully bottom-up and competition-for-excellence-based manner.
Research Infrastructures will contribute towards the achievement of key strategic orientations by means of state-of-the-art services, knowledge, and tools to address societal challenges, to ensure evidence-based policymaking and to help industry strengthen its knowledge base and technical know-how. The use of Research Infrastructures will be stimulated across the different pillars of Horizon Europe.
Through the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and the European Data Infrastructure (EDI), researchers involved in Horizon Europe activities will be able to access and process most of the data generated and collected by Research Infrastructures.
